Fit for Me 25/52

What I did last week:

Saturday-BodyPump for an hour. I made it through every track friends. Progress. And my favorite teacher was there!

Sunday-BodyJam for an hour. This is that dance class that is taught by the 60 year old free spirit. Y’all, this is one woman that I would choose to kick my butt every day. I get such a great workout when I go to this class. Sweat is dripping flying off me by the mid point, and it is great. It is such a great class to just let loose and really get your muscles moving. It reaffirms though that this white girl has no business on a dance floor. I can get the moves eventually, but there are some that just do not come naturally. But I am there to have fun and sweat my booty off!

Monday-20 minute core workout.

Impressed by:

I made it through every track in BodyPump. I may have been on baby weights, but I made it none the less. Look at these mom guns.

Struggled with:

I will be honest. I have given up on the plank and push-up challenge. It is doing nothing for me but making me frustrated. I realize that doing 5 minute planks, while admirable, is not something that defines my fitness level. So I am not going to keep doing something that makes me hate myself every night.

Did I meet my goal from last week?

While I wasn’t really more consistent, I did make it to two classes, which is something in my book.

What is my goal for next week?

I realized this week that my 10k race is a little less than 3 months away. I need to get my training started! I have printed out a tentative schedule, so my goal is to actually start that this week. Anyone in COMO want to run with me?

Fitness Thoughts:

I talked about being in a rut with my workouts last week, so I did some online research to find something to kick me into gear. I found this app for my phone, Sworkit. It can work on Android or Apple products. I am just using the lite version right now to see if I like it. So far I think it is great for those days where I just can’t make it to the gym. I am not the greatest at following just a list and knowing how to do an exercise. I like that this prompts you as you are going, but also provides a video of each exercise so you know how to do it. It looks like you can track your progress, but I am not sure how much it shows you since I have only used it a couple times. There seems to be a wide variety of options of exercises (upper body, lower body, core, stretches, yoga, and cardio), and each area has probably around 20 different options. I think this will be nice so I am not doing the same in-home workout. You can do 5 minutes or an hour (or anywhere in between), so I like the versatility there. I used it for my core workout Monday. It was awesome. Once I use it a little more, I will update you whether it was worth it.

Have you ever trained for a race? Do you use any fitness apps?

What I did last week:

Wednesday-30 minute walk with the family. It was nice to have Tom home to have home!

Thursday-30 minute walk with the dogs and George. It was probably the last time I will carry G-man because I was sweating bullets. It is just getting too hot for him to be comfortable in there.

Saturday-I walked around the mall with George for a couple hours. This counts right?

Sunday-BodyJam:  This is a group class that is all dance inspired. We did everything:  Jive, Latin, hip-hop, and club, and also 5 year old dancing. Seriously, there was a move where I thought I was in a room watching kindergartners wave their arms around like crazy. It was so much fun! The instructor was awesome. She was this free-spirit who was so much fun to dance with, and I danced like I was alone in my house. It was a very liberating class. Then I also walked the dogs for 20 minutes that night. It was the first time walking them alone with a stroller. This was awful. The dogs were scared of the stroller because it definitely restricted them more because of how I strapped the leashes around me. We didn’t get into a groove where we all weren’t frustrated until were back on our own street at the end. Figures.

Tuesday-I did a 20 minute leg workout and a 20 minute ab workout.

Impressed by:

Letting myself go in that dance class. Sometimes it is hard for me to just completely relax in front of strangers, but I danced my little heart out in that class. The instructor was just to fun not to follow! And I really feel the good soreness after it.

Struggled with:

I missed two days of my push-up and plank challenge. Whoops.

Did I meet my goal from last week?

I did with BodyJam.

What is my goal for next week?

I want to make it to a BodyPump class.

Fitness Thoughts:

If you need a little inspiration…

What I did last week:

Thursday-I thought I could squeeze in a quick walk with the dogs during the brief pause of torrential rain we were having that day. I saw a break in the clouds so Grace, Crosby, and I went speed walking. I was determined to get at least a mile in. I didn’t want to run because the ground was a little slippery with the all day rain. And running on slippery concrete with two silly dogs sounds like a recipe for disaster. So we attempted to speed walk this mile. As my luck would have it, on the half mile marker, it started sprinkling. And then wham-buckets of rain commenced. This is also the time that Grace decided to declare the end of the run and protest being in the rain. She just plopped right down on the sidewalk refusing to walk in the downpour. I spent a good 5 minutes coaxing her and letting her know her diva paws could be dry if she just started running with me. We ran that last little bit as fast and carefully as we could. Needless to say, we were sopping wet when we got home. We got a mile in at least. Crosby thought it was the best day ever!

Saturday-I did the 5k race with George.

Monday-20 minute ab workout.

Tuesday-20 minute leg workout.

Impressed by:

I am impressed that I am now keeping up with my push-up and plank challenge. Yesterday was Day 9, which is 60 second plank and 19 push-ups.

Struggled with:

The rain needs to go away. I need to do better at doing inside workouts when the rain foils my outside plans. We do have a gym membership with childcare….but that requires getting in the car and leaving the pups at home. Grown-up decisions…

Did I meet my goal from last week?

I did two real push-ups. Two.

What is my goal for next week?

To go to a group class.

Fitness Thoughts:

Last Friday, I realized that I was wearing the same outfit that I did a lot of my maternity bump posts in. (Funny enough neither the shirt or pants were maternity, and I owned them long before I was pregnant. I will let you in on a secret, for the last half of my pregnancy the pants were not buttoned for any of the photos. I just kept wearing them for consistency sake.) It was kind of jarring to think that George has been out of my belly now longer than he was in my belly. I made Tom take a picture of me that night so I could really see how far I have come since George made his appearance. George now weighs about how much I gained during the pregnancy too. So weird how the same weight can feel (and look) so different. Thankfully, I have lost all that weight, and now I am even a little under where I was when I began.

George in belly at almost 37 weeks vs. George out of belly at 40 weeks.

pregnancy weight loss

Self High Five.

Can you do real push-ups? Do you take before and after weight loss photos?

Fit for Me 21/52

I feel like I am in a really good place with my body. This has definitely kept me more accountable to being more active. And we are at the midpoint of the year!

What I did last week:

Thursday-I did a 2.5 mile walk/run with just the dogs.

Monday-I went to BodyPump for an hour. It was nice to get back into a class. I got through every track except shoulders.

Tuesday-I did a 2 mile walk/run with the dogs.

Impressed by:

I am impressed that even after a month out of BodyPump, I was able to get through almost every track. Shoulder track I always struggle with, so that was no suprise.

Struggled with:

I really failed to keep up with my plank and push-up challenge. I just kept forgetting. I finally printed them off so I can have them on my nightstand. I have done it the last three days consistently.

Did I meet my goal from last week?

I did meet my goal to work out at the gym. I missed BodyPump!

What is my goal for next week?

To do some real full-on push-ups during this challenge. I have never really been able to do them up on my toes. I am hoping to work up my push-up stamina so I don’t have to stay on my knees.

Fitness Thoughts:

We are in the sweet spot temperature wise where it is not too muggy or hot, but still fairly cool. It makes it so much easier to want to go workout when you aren’t feeling like you are walking into a cloud when you step outside. Although it has been raining a lot here, which is why I missed Saturday and Sunday workouts. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it in the house.

Fit for Me 20/52

What I did last week:

Wednesday-I walked the dogs with George for a mile. I need Tom’s schedule to even out!

Thursday-I did a leg workout at home after George went to bed. I also started my plank and push-up challenge.

Sunday-I walked the dogs and George for almost 1.5 miles. I keep pushing the limit! Our Tula got here, so I got to test it out for the first time on a walk here. George loves being carried period, and he falls asleep almost immediately. I feel like he stayed put a lot better than our cloth carrier on the walk.

Monday-20 minute ab workout as I was watching the awkwardness that is the Bachelorette.

Tuesday-So we go a little bit further each time we venture out as a pack. George and I walked the dogs close to 2 miles last night. What?!? We are getting pretty good at this.

Impressed by:

I am impressed that I am able walk the troupe without several injuring any of them or myself. I get a little more confident each time we go out together. (But I am hoping that now that Tom’s schedule has switched, he can take over dog duties.)

Struggled with:

Granted I didn’t do my planks and push-ups everyday, but I really don’t feel that I struggled with anything this week.

Did I meet my goal from last week?

My goal was to start the push-up and plank month challenge. Well I did start it, three different nights. I would remember one night and then forget the next. So Monday and Tuesday was the first time I did it two days in a row. Hoping to hit day three tonight.

What is my goal for next week?

I want to do a workout at the gym. I hate paying for the gym membership and not using it. Unfortunately our schedule hasn’t allowed me to get to a gym class as easily with George and dog responsibilities. But this next week it is going to happen!

Fitness Thoughts:

I got cat-called twice last night on our walk. I have a few things that run through my mind as early twenty year olds hang out their car windows hollering and whistling at me. First my mother side says “Do you not see that I am unavailable to you…there is a child strapped to my chest.” Then my feminine side says “That is disgusting, and really do you think that is appropriate to act like we are in the wild trying to mate?.” Then my basic woman and human side (and maybe the mom side again) says, “Yessssss, I still got it.” Let’s talk truth…it was flattering at the same time it was disgusting.
