Update on 35 before 35 List

1. Crochet something else besides blankets or scarves at least once a year (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

2. Do a photography challenge

  • I am so happy that I have kept up with this challenge. I definitely look through George’s glamor shots at least once a week.

  • I did the Go Girl! 5K.

8. Go camping with Tom

9. Pay for the car behind me in a drive through

10. See Tyrone Wells live as many times as possible

11. Tour Fort Defiance here in Clarksville

12. Water ski with my dad

13. Do a 5K with my mom

14. Take a swing dance class with Tom

15. Read at least one fun book a month and one professional development book every three months

  • With my schedule, it can be really hard to read a lot. I have a hard time reading without falling asleep, and not because it is boring. #momprobs My friend Ellen shared that her goal is to just read every day. That can be one page or one whole book. I really loved this idea, so that is my new goal. I just want to crack open a book and read for fun every day. I am trying to find little ways to incorporate little spurts of reading throughout my day.

16. Take a pottery or stained glass class

17. Do one new recipe each month

  • We tried this Shrimp Alfredo Pasta Bake. It was not our favorite. It was super spicy and the cheese came out clumpy. I apparently cannot perfect the alfredo consistency after one try. It does make a lot, but it is not good reheated.

18. See both a Clemson and UCM football game live

19. Find a place to volunteer on a regular basis

20. Go hiking

21. Ride in a hot air balloon

24. Spend a day without electronics (phone, t.v. and computer)

25. Do something unique and new for my birthdays

26. Explore Nashville while we live here

27. Watch at least 10 movies that I have not seen before that won Best Picture at the Oscars and at least 20 documentaries (not necessarily Oscar winning) Movies (2/10); Documentaries (7/20)

28. Sew an item of clothing from scratch

29. Do a personal devotional/bible study on my own

30. Be a mascot for an event

31. Go on our honeymoon (preferably somewhere tropical)

32. Host an annual NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship game party

33. Go on a mission trip

34. Be on a recreation volleyball team

  • My plans didn’t work out as I had hoped. I am going to have to start over on my search for a volleyball team.

35. Become a mom

  • I had a big mom moment last night. George started officially crawling. It was sooo exciting! He has been trying so hard for the past month, but last night was the first time he got everything going. Instagram refused to upload the video so I had to resort to other measures of documenting. Also I am not sorry that I fill my feed with George.

35 before 35 Update

This last month is honestly a blur, so let’s see how I did.

1. Crochet something else besides blankets or scarves at least once a year (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

  • I successfully made another hat. These are some of my favorite pictures of George to date too! You can click here to see more.

2. Do a photography challenge

  • I am steadily keeping up with this! I have some things coming up that I am going to try shooting in different ways and forcing myself to change different settings. Plus I am so ready to be shooting outside again!
  • I often find myself looking through his album now that we have 6 months worth of photos to see how he has changed, but also how some of my photography has changed.
  • Do you have any suggestions of things I should capture with George or techniques I should try?

3. Visit 5 cities I have never been to before (5/5)

4. Tour at least one a winery, brewery, or distillery

5. Send at least 5 snail mail a month

6. Become a “professional” photographer

  • I have some potential clients with inquiries so hopefully they come to fruition.
  • I was blessed to be part of a charity event this Friday where I was the photographer. It is an organization that helps homeless children with a variety of things. There is an art auction every year, and this is my second year being a part of it.

7. Run at least 10 races (any distance) (1/10)

  • I am signed up for a 10K in September, but I need to find some 5Ks to hit up. None around here seem to fit into my schedule.

8. Go camping with Tom

9. Pay for the car behind me in a drive through

10. See Tyrone Wells live as many times as possible

11. Tour Fort Defiance here in Clarksville

12. Water ski with my dad

13. Do a 5K with my mom

14. Take a swing dance class with Tom

15. Read at least one fun book a month and one professional development book every three months

  • I started a new book for both of these this month. I am really struggling finding the time to read, and when I do, I fall asleep with in minutes. Even when I read at my desk during lunch, while I am pumping. Something needs to change lol.

16. Take a pottery or stained glass class

17. Do one new recipe each month

  • I am going to share it later this week, but I made pumpkin brownies yesterday.

18. See both a Clemson and UCM football game live

19. Find a place to volunteer on a regular basis

20. Go hiking

21. Ride in a hot air balloon

22. Go to at least 20 “new to me” restaurants. (21/20)

  • I went to two this month, both here in Columbia. I went to Casablanca with a friend from college who I haven’t seen in probably a good 9 years. It is a Greek restaurant in town that is REALLY GOOD, and pretty nicely priced. Their staff was really nice too. I then went to my first Thai place last week with a friend (who randomly knew Tom growing up, worked with me at Iowa State, and now we are both working at CC.). I will admit that I played it safe and had a stir fry, but it was still pretty good. The service was less than desirable, but hey when you are busy sometimes your emotions get the best of you.

23. Stay at a bed and breakfast

24. Spend a day without electronics (phone, t.v. and computer)

25. Have a Kentucky Derby themed 30th birthday party.

26. Explore Nashville while we live here

27. Watch at least 10 movies that I have not seen before that won Best Picture at the Oscars and at least 20 documentaries (not necessarily Oscar winning) Movies (2/10); Documentaries (7/20)

28. Sew an item of clothing from scratch

29. Do a personal devotional/bible study on my own

30. Be a mascot for an event

31. Go on our honeymoon (preferably somewhere tropical)

  • I finally got Tom to agree to go on a honeymoon cruise for our 5 year anniversary next year. Is it too early to plan?

32. Host an annual NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship game party

  • I doubt this will happen this year. We just have too much going on right now to get this organized in the next couple weeks. Plus I will be out of town the week before for a wedding and will be heading up to KC that weekend to help with going through my Grandma’s things. My introvert emotions can’t handle having people over after all that. I know when to say no. Hopefully next year we will be a little more settled. (Or does that never happen?)

33. Go on a mission trip

34. Be on a recreation volleyball team

35. Become a mom

Another 35 Before 35 Update

Man October went fast. I did manage to knock some things off my list.

1. Crochet something else besides blankets or scarves at least once a year (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020)

  • Maybe I should stop finding new projects now, and wait until next year to do some more. I did a couple this month with the dinosaur hat and bearded beanie. I definitely have done my way through projects that are not straight lines this year.

2. Do a photography challenge

  • I am still on par with this. I have been experimenting a lot with different ways to set up backdrops without a proper studio. So some are not great as I figure out angles and work to manipulate light, but I am learning! I already showed some pics from his Halloween shoot, but here are some others of my challenge to get out the DSLR to capture George at least once a week.

This was our attempt at a fall shoot. These are some of the very few pictures where he wasn’t throwing a fit or eating the blanket.

3. Visit 5 cities I have never been to before (5/5)

4. Tour at least one of the distilleries in the KY/TN area

  • Well, this one I completely failed on since we made the move back to MO this past week. Maybe I will change it to explore the wineries of Missouri.

5. Send at least 5 snail mail a month

  • This is the first month that I didn’t complete this. I think I got 3 or 4 out. Whoops.

6. Become a “professional” photographer

  • I took some photos of some good friends of ours before I left Clarksville. I am hoping once we get settled here I will be able to really branch out here in Missouri. Here is one of my favorites.

7. Run at least 10 races (any distance) (1/10)

8. Go camping with Tom

9. Pay for the car behind me in a drive through

10. See Tyrone Wells live as many times as possible

11. Tour Fort Defiance here in Clarksville

12. Water ski with my dad

13. Do a 5K with my mom

14. Take a swing dance class with Tom

15. Read at least one fun book a month and one professional development book every three months

  • I really think I need to give up on this book. It is holding me down…

16. Take a pottery or stained glass class

  • Anyone in mid-Missouri know a good place to do either of these?

17. Do one new recipe each month

18. See both a Clemson and UCM football game live

19. Find a place to volunteer on a regular basis

20. Go hiking

21. Ride in a hot air balloon

22. Go to at least 20 “new to me” restaurants. (17/20)

  • I went to Five Points Pizza in Nashville with my best friend while she was visiting. They have great food!

23. Stay at a bed and breakfast

24. Spend a day without electronics (phone, t.v. and computer)

25. Have a Kentucky Derby themed 3oth birthday party.

26. Explore Nashville while we live here

  • While I didn’t do as much as I would have liked, I did explore some during the year and a half I was there. I met up with a friend of mine before I left for coffee up by Vandy. It is always interesting to see a different university. Does taking George to a cardiac specialist in Nashville count as seeing more of Nashville?

32. Host an annual NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship game party

33. Go on a mission trip

34. Be on a recreation volleyball team

35. Become a mom

Well I am not doing too bad at the monthly stuff, but I really need to work on the bigger items. Here’s to another month of trying.

Crochet Tie and Hat

In my quest to expand my crochet skills thanks to my 35 before 35 list, I knew I wanted to make something for George.

I saw lots of cute things on Pinterest.

I need this baby in my life…

Cute right? Well some of the things I found either didn’t have patterns, the pattern wasn’t free, or the pattern included things such as buttons or I couldn’t understand the stitches. Problems.

I finally settled on this pattern for the tie. Then I used this video for the hat (which is way to big for G right now since I made it before he was born.)

I used yarn that I had left over from other projects, and it didn’t need very much for either.

This is my first successful attempt at a hat!

It will be fun to take these pictures again in a few months to see how he has grown. That tie looks huge on him now!

IMG_5221 IMG_5212

This last one is possibly one of my favorites shots of him.

For the first time ever, I am feeling a crochet drought. I just am not feeling inspired to do anything. We’ll see how long that lasts. I do have projects in mind, just no gumption to do them right now.

Everything has it’s season I guess.

Have you done any projects lately? Any crochet ideas to share?

35 Before 35 Update

Here we are, another month passed. I didn’t do too bad considering I was on bedrest for most of the month and had a baby, which coincidentally checks one of the list.

1. Crochet something else besides blankets or scarves at least once a year

  • I made a tie and beanie for George to do some pictures with. The beanie is bigger than his whole head, but the tie worked well!

IMG_5172 IMG_5184 IMG_5200

The last one makes my heart giddy.

2. Do a photography challenge

  • My goal is to do at least one mini session with George each week for a year. I have done well so far! Granted it has only been two weeks, but you have to start somewhere. It will be fun to practice different techniques and props with him and not worry about messing it up for a client. I intend to try different angles, locations, lighting, equipment, or props each time to stretch what I can do with a camera. Also selfishly, this challenge will document the growth of the most adorable little boy.

3. Visit 5 cities I have never been to before (5/5)

4. Tour at least one of the distilleries in the KY/TN area

13. Do a 5K with my mom

14. Take a swing dance class with Tom

15. Read at least one fun book a month and one professional development book every three months

  • Unfortunately, I keep picking books that aren’t that great so I stall out. I swear I am working on it.

16. Take a pottery or stained glass class

17. Do one new recipe each month

  • I really rocked this out this month. I made a taco casserole, sloppy joes, and I even made up my own crockpot recipe of chicken and broccoli mac and cheese.

18. See both a Clemson and UCM football game live

19. Find a place to volunteer on a regular basis

20. Go hiking

21. Ride in a hot air balloon
