Daphne-18 Months

IMG_0480

Weight:  I forgot to weigh her today…Whoops. She has her check up tomorrow, and I am really excited to see how much she has grown. I would be surprised if she isn’t above the average in height and weight now.

Health: She has been great these past couple months. Her last two teeth are working their way in, but other than those couple moody moments with those, she has been great.

IMG_0489

Diet: She is still a really great eater. She is not eating as much veggies on their own. However, she will eat them frozen or if they are mixed in small bites with rice. There really isn’t much else that she won’t eat. She loves the fruit and veggie packets, and she gets angry if George has one and she does not. You also know that she is ready to eat because she pushes her booster seat up to the table, and she attempts to climb in.

IMG_0460

Clothes:  She had a HUGE growth spurt since her last update. She shot up to 18 month clothes, and just skimmed over the 12-18 month size. She also completely skipped over size 4 shoes. She is in size 5 now, but I am not sure how much longer we will be in these. Seriously she grew so much so fast! She is in size 6 diapers.

IMG_0413

Sleeping:  We have been putting her to bed around 7:30/8 still, and she generally stays asleep through the night until 7/8 in the morning. I think our days of two naps is coming to an end. Some days she does just fine without her morning nap, and other days it is still very apparent she needs it. She is no longer in her Zipadee Zip suit though. I am still scared to leave her with a blanket over night, but she has been doing pretty good having her hands free for the first time in her life. She has been swaddled since birth!

IMG_0509

Likes:  She loves my phone. She will throw a fit if you try to take it away from her. She loves Elmo. She loves to read, her favorites being an Elmo search and find, Itsy Bitsy Spider, and Jesus Loves Me. She adores George, and she is always following him around and getting in his business. She loves Duplo Legos, and she is so good at putting them together. She has gotten into coloring and drawing this month. She love shoes, and she puts on anyone’s that she can get her hands on. Much to my chagrin, she loves her stuffed animals. I feel like every night there are new ones in her crib.

IMG_0445

Dislikes:  Not getting food fast, George having things she doesn’t, being told she can’t sit on the table, basically being told no.

Milestones: She has started asking to sit on the potty! She has peed in it once, but there have been numerous times that she just went in her diaper than dragged us to the bathroom for the potty. I am not really wanting to do full potty training just yet because she doesn’t really talk yet. We’ll ask her pediatrician tomorrow for more guidance. She just seems so little! She does a lot of animal noises. She is actually a really great listener. She knows all the rooms in the house by name. She also has started helping put dishes away as we are cleaning up for dinner. She was Jane Goodall for Halloween, and she actually went up to doors to get candy. She can open doors now…

IMG_0454

Nicknames:  Daphie, Sisterbear, Sis, and Daphie Girl. The two most common are still Daph and Sister.

Quirks:  Her waves are all like she is shooing you away. She has started walking on her tip toes everywhere. We are constantly telling her to put her heels down.

IMG_0526

We parents are: doing pretty good. October was crazy for us, we watched some of our closest friends get married which was a blast. We are heading into a busy and stressful time, so we have been trying to be chill these past few weeks.

George is: something. He has been hard this past month. He really does not like Daphne getting into his stuff. He has figured out he can pick her up, so he will do that and basically will drag her around and drop her out of his range. He is not above kicking and shoving her, so he has spent a good portion of his days in time out recently. We are working on using appropriate words when he is feeling frustrated and how to ask for help instead of hurting his sister. We have been using the “breathing” method and doing a lot of praying. He also basically never eats, so that makes dinner times really enjoyable trying to teach him what is rude behavior.

IMG_0534

The dogs are: the best. We really lucked out adopting these two. We have had Grace now for 7 years as of Halloween, and Crosby for 5 years this fall. Daphne LOVES Crosby. She is always trying to pet him, and she makes sure to tell him goodnight every night. They are the most patient dogs, and I love them for it.

Daphie, I cannot believe you have been here for 18 months. Every time you run down the hallway, I see my heart beating outside of my chest. I am so in love with you and the little person you are becoming.

Here is George at 18 months.

Daphne-16 Months

IMG_6718

Weight:  25 lbs. She is 85% for weight, 48% for height, and 65% for head circumference.

Health: All her molars came in, so we are all doing better. She is a spit fire when she is moody. I can tell too that she will have allergy issues like the rest of us. She has been a little snotty with weather changes.

IMG_6706

Diet: Well, I think we have hit the picky stage. She rarely eats cooked veggies, but she will eat them frozen or in rice form. She loves all fruits but especially blackberries and blueberries. She tries to get into the fridge since she knows where they are, and gets mad if you get in her way. She is not a fan of deli meat, but most other meats she does well with. Chicken will depend on the day. Salmon, she would eat every meal. She will throw a tantrum for Bear Naked peanut butter granola bites and the fruit and veggie packets. We can’t go in the pantry without her running in after us pointing to these two things. She wont eat eggs if you fix them for her, but if I have eggs on my plate she will want every bite.

IMG_6687

Clothes:  She is in 12 month clothes. She is in size 3 shoes, and size 5 diaper during the day and size 6 at night.  I just put her in her first real tennis shoes this weekend, and she looks so grown up in them!

Sleeping:  We have been putting her to bed around 7:30/8. If you lay her on her stomach and just pat her back, she just goes right to sleep. She generally stays asleep most of the night. She hardly sleeps past 7am. She still has two naps a day, and she is really sticking to two hour naps. However, we can push her a little when we have something going on, and she can make due with one nap. However, she will tell you that she is ready to go to bed. She just grabs her blanket and goes to her crib on her own, or she will lay down on her whale blanket in the living room.

IMG_6739

Likes:  She still loves her robe. She is obsessed with shoes and bags. She adores George and Crosby. My mom is her best friend. She would live outside if we let her, and she loves her water table. She is a little vain right now, and she loves looking at herself in the mirror and in my camera on my phone. Her favorite toys are magna tiles and legos. Her favorite show is Sesame Street with Elmo.

IMG_6698

Dislikes:  Diaper Changes. Being told no. Being left alone.

Milestones: This girl is so smart. She is really getting the hang of doing things on her own. She can undo zippers. She can draw a little bit now. She is starting to hop, and she all but runs. She brushes her teeth on her own, and she will have her first dentist appointment tomorrow.

IMG_6724

Nicknames:  Daphie, Sisterbear, Sis, and Daphie Girl. The two most common are still Daph and Sister.

Quirks:  When she wants to sit in your lap, she walks backwards to you. She still sucks her finger through the hole in her pacy. And she still will only use the newborn pacies from the hospital. She barks at the dogs. She keeps getting her legs stuck in her crib, bad enough once that Tom thought he would have to break it to get her out of there.

IMG_6691

We parents are: doing pretty great. I think we are still feeling out this whole being a normal family with regular hours. Overall it has been an easy adjustment. Making plans has been so nice!  We are able to have weekly traditions, and Tom can be involved in everything. It is more like we are a team at home too, which is definitely an added bonus. He is loving his new job and is feeling valued there. And we are regulars at a restaurant downtown. The owner knows my drink before I even order it! One of the coolest things to happen to me.

George is: like a sour patch kid with her. One minute he’ll be trying to find a pacy for her to calm her down and saying, ” I need to take care of my sister.” Then the next minute he will be pushing her down and yanking toys out of her hands. We are working on appropriate behavior and how to express our emotions even when they are very big emotions.

The dogs are: just the big dopey dogs that they always are. They really have the best life of us all. They do really well with Daph, even though she is kind of always in their way. She is always climbing on Crosby, and he doesn’t seem to mind.

IMG_6657

She may look like her daddy, but this girl is making a name for herself.

Here is George at 16 months.

Daphne-14 Months

IMG_5273

Weight:  24 lbs.

Health: She has been super fussy this month. She has a total of 8 teeth, and she is working on 4 molars. She gets diaper rashes really bad, and there really isn’t a remedy that we have tried that works (and we have tried a lot). She also got her first real injury. She fell in the bathroom on the trashcan rim. She had a giant bruise on her face. It’s been there a couple weeks now.

IMG_5207

Diet: Daph has been a great eater. This week she has been a bit picky, but I think it may be the teeth. She has started the toddler thing that every night is something different and it is not a guarantee that she will love something day to day. She loves sweet potatoes and raspberries. I stopped nursing her right before she was 13 months. She went on a milk strike right after that, and she is just now drinking milk regularly. She loves to drink water though.

IMG_5283

Clothes:  She is in 9 month clothes. She can wear a few 12 month clothes. She is still in size 2 shoes, and size 5 diaper.

IMG_5215

Sleeping:  We have been putting her to bed around 7:30/8. She generally stays asleep most of the night. She hardly sleeps past 7am. She still has two naps a day, and she is really sticking to two hour naps.

IMG_5304

Likes:  She LOVES to wear her robe, which is a 3T size. She is obsessed with her elephant backpack. She believe it is her duty to close every door in the house. She adores George!

IMG_5222

Dislikes:  Diaper Changes. She does not like being left out. She wants to be all up in George’s business which is hard for her when he doesn’t want her around.

IMG_5247

Milestones: She can climb up and down stairs. Girl is practically running now. She gives open mouth kisses and will give you hugs when you ask. She says ni-ni (night, night). She can climb, which is terrifying because she isn’t super safe about the getting down part.

IMG_5319

Nicknames:  Daphie, Sisterbear, Sis, and Daphie Girl. The two most common are still Daph and Sister.

IMG_5327

Quirks:  She will sing along with you when you sing her lullabies. She will mimic your laugh. When she is drinking, it’s like she stops breathing she is taking such big gulps. She tries to put on her clothes and shoes. She come pretty close to it too. She is also so smart. She follows directions really well. She puts things away where they are supposed to be, and even knows the difference between her toys and the dogs toys.

IMG_5227

We parents are: not too bad! Tom just switched departments, and he is now on a permanent day shift. It has only been a week, but I can already tell a difference in his demeanor and how George reacts to his time home. It is a much better department too, and offers more support to him as an officer. I am appalled at how he was treated over this last year, so I was glad he was able to move to a better place and have better hours for our family. We are gearing up for one of the busiest times for higher ed, but it is also my favorite time of year with my job. I just love all the new possibilities and seeing all these dreams begin with our students. And I am starting to finally feel settled into the director role, so I am really excited to see what my department does this year. Things are good!

IMG_5330

George is: amazing me every day. His vocabulary is crazy good. I just think how we thought he was delayed two years ago. He has recently started making up his own songs. I am constantly cracking up at this boy. He isn’t super fond of Daphne right now. He gets into his stuff too much and messes up whatever he is playing with, so he gets really frustrated with her. Then he’ll have moments where he is super sweet to her.

The dogs are: living their best life. With the kids home all day, they spend as much time as they want outside and rarely are alone. They adore Daph at meal time, and she even tries to share and feed them. Crosby is not appreciative of our new chicken friends. Grace is still the diva she always is.

IMG_5259

I love watching this girl come into her own. She is going to move mountains.

Here is George at 14 months.

Daphne-12 Months

This year and this girl.

She has been loving on us for a whole year. She is everything I hoped for and more.

IMG_4298

Weight:  22lbs.

Health: This month she has been fairly healthy. I do think she has allergies because we all got hayfever with the crazy pollen. Everyone’s eyes were a little puffy for a few days. She is still working on teeth. She has a total of 7 now, with a couple more on the way. I love the little toothy grin.

IMG_4394

Diet: I BREASTFED HER FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR!!! Whoop whoop! I really honestly cannot believe that we actually made it this long. I will start weaning her off over the next month. The only time she is actually interested is the first feeding of the day, so that will be the last one I cut out. During the week, I nursed her in the morning and before bed. She only had two bottles during the day while I was at work. One of those was typically a formula bottle. Depending on how well she nurses at night, she may get a 2-4 oz formula bottle before bed as well. On the weekends, for the most part we avoided the formula and nursed the whole time. She is eating three full meals, and generally eats what we eat. I hope that we can keep up the good eating habits. I mean she ate salad greens this month!

IMG_4354

Clothes: She is in 6-9 month and 9 month clothes. She is in a size 4 diaper, and size 2 shoe still.

Sleeping:  We have been putting her to bed around 7:30/8. She generally stays asleep most of the night. She hardly sleeps past 7am. She still has two naps a day, and she is really sticking to two hour naps. It will be interesting to see how real milk will change her patterns.

IMG_4416

Likes:  I am fairly positive that she would live upside down if she could. She loves to be dipped. She is really into stacking things. She is loving the “That Not My” book series from Usborne. She loves George. He can always make her laugh, and she is starting to follow him wherever he goes. She is going to be into music; with whatever is playing, she is dancing. She loves playing with plastic bottles. She beelines it for outside whenever the door opens. She likes George’s trucks.

IMG_4296

Dislikes:  She does not like to be done eating. You better have food on her tray. She still has a general disdain for most people. (Her party could be interesting tomorrow…) She does not like the word no. She is not a fan of when the dogs are barreling through the door. She is pretty much done with the day at 5. She can be kind of grumpy if she isn’t eating at this time.

Milestones: She has taken a few unassisted steps! She won’t do more than 3 steps, but she does them! She still crawls so fast, so she seems uninterested on going any further.

IMG_4448

Nicknames:  Daphers, Daphie, and Daphie Girl. The two most common are still Daph and Sister.

Quirks:  She likes to pass things to people. She loves sharing her pacy with people. She also likes to use anything as a walker: books, chairs, buckets… She likes to pull things off the shelves or out of containers, but then tries to put them all back.

IMG_4282

We parents are: still tired. It’s been a crazy month with various things in our world. We are building a playground for the kids, and by we I mean Tom. It looks amazing so far. I had my 33rd birthday, and we got to see Lion King live! So good! I also had two people (grown people that I work with) ask me if I was expecting again, so there is that…I had lots of feelings about it at first, but I am really trying to not let it get me down like the time I cried after my niece said something similar when George was 9 months old. (Not my best moment…) I am proud of what my body is doing. A HUMAN SURVIVED OFF MY BODY FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS. It’s ok if there is still some extra to love around me!

George is: such a ham. He will have really good days, and then some really bad not listening ones. And he has been really into screaming lately because he has “loud in his mouth.” He also has been commandeering Sister’s pacies and hiding them in his room or hiding himself while he “gets it wet” for Daphne. He said he has to test it out for her. We are in trouble with this one. He LOVES that we are outside almost every day. That has helped with some cabin fever. He is getting really good at writing his letters. He makes up his own songs. I am so proud of how much he has learned!

The dogs are: ridiculous. They are pretty much barking at everything these days. Crosby wants to be outside all day. They are a mess, but we love them anyway.

I thought George grew fast, but this time was such a whirlwind. While it was tough, I feel like we enjoyed the process more and were much less stressed this time around. Daphie has been a fairly easy baby, so that helps. She is such a dream. Even though these little baby features may fade, I am excited to see her personality continue to develop.

Daphie Girl, you are such a light in our days. I am honored to be your mom.
