Talks with Tom #31

Tom hasn’t seen George for two weeks now. There is so much change that occurs in a 3 month old. I try to update him about all the little changes while we are apart.

This was a conversation last night.

Me-He is getting really good at talking. He will go back and forth with you.

Tom-Does he say words?

Me-No he doesn’t say words. He gurgles. (and I made the noise George does.)

Tom-What kind of teacher are you if you can’t teach a 3 month old words. And you call yourself an academic advisor.

Me- I know I have failed him, but in my defense my students should already know words by the time I get them.

Tom- Just saying, no child left behind.

Grr…he knows that NCLB is a big thorn for me and a huge reason why I left teaching in the traditional sense.

This weekend he can have a crack at it and teach him all the words.

Talks With Tom # 30

We were watching TV the other day, and the commercial for the CMAs came on. You know the one with Brad Paisely and Carrie Underwood.

Me- Did you know that Carrie is pregnant?

Tom- Hmm no.

Me- Is Carrie above Taylor on your list? (As in Taylor Swift, and list as in your celebrity crush list)

Tom- Really? Is that even a question? ( I knew as soon as it came out of my mouth that Taylor was and always will be his number one.)

Me- Well you missed out on your chance (since Taylor did live up the way in Nashville). She moved to New York.

Tom- It figures. It was probably really hard for her to be this close to me and know she can’t have me.

Yes I am sure that is it.

Who is on your celebrity crush list? Mine are Derek Hough, Tristan MacManus, and Bradley Cooper.

I have LOVED watching the Royals this past week. We have seen some of the most exciting games, EVER.

(in my humble opinion of course)

We were thinking that we couldn’t have a game without going into extra innings.

I am so sad that I do not get to be in Kansas City during all this. It is certainly a fun time to be there. The stadium looked electric last night, even with the rain. Such an amazing atmosphere. And it has been awesome seeing my Facebook newsfeed pretty much being taken over by KC, AND to see them in the “trending” section!

Be Royal friends.

Here are some quick Tom comments concerning the Royals:

This quote happened last night early in the game.

“If we win the series, I am going to shit my pants like George just did.” (He did not crap his pants in case you were wondering, but there were some tears.)

Some night this week, Tom was looking up Royals memorabilia that we could have in our future home when he found Royals themed candy.

“Sweets and Treats? (this was a category on the website) Of course I want the Royals in my mouth.”

Royals

George is passing on his baby magic by sharing his favorite facial expression.

I can’t wait to see what unfolds during the rest of this postseason! So excited for my Boys in Blue!

To Baltimore we go!

Take the Crown!

Talks with Tom #28

In recent weeks, there have been so many new parent conversations with Tom that have left me dying laughing or with my jaw on the floor. Unfortunately, I always think I am going to remember them to post, but then soon forget before I have time to write a post.

Just know, we are having lots of extra giggles due to our sleep deprivation and new parentdom.

This particular one happened late at night after George wet the bed.

I was changing the sheets, and Tom was holding a fussy George. (I mean who wouldn’t be fussy after wetting the bed?)

We had just fed him, but he wasn’t really settling down.

Me-Maybe he is still hungry.

Tom-Uh, yea I am going to guess he is still hungry since he just latched on to my nipple.

George will latch on to anything when he is hungry…collarbones, bibs, his own hand, my hair, the inside of my elbow…

Tom has resorted to letting this happen fairly often now to keep the fussiness at bay while we are trying to get bottles and milk ready for him.

The things we do as parents.

But seriously, I would do anything for this face.

On a related note, George’s due date was today. Crazy to think we were supposed to be just meeting him now, but he has been on the outside now for 3 weeks.

He also got to meet one of his cousins this week.

They were seriously adorable together. Ava was so sweet with him. She has volunteered to be his babysitter and teach him all the words. George of course was perfectly content being dotted on all weekend.

I can’t wait to watch them grow up together!

Talks With Tom #27

Not sure if you saw this article floating around the interwebs lately.

One of the points was that dogs don’t like hugs.

Our first thought was not our dogs. They love them! They sit for us so willingly. Grace will even lean her head into the nook of our necks. This can’t be about our dogs.

1468521_10100323866805691_105058716_n

Both of them have been known to crawl INTO our laps for hugs.

This weekend Tom was having one of his hugging sessions with the dogs when we had this conversation.

Tom- I just can’t believe that article that dogs don’t like hugs. Where is their evidence?

Me- It said that they view it as an act of dominance, and they just tolerate it.

Tom- I don’t think it is accurate. Have you ever seen either of our dogs use a narcotic substance?

Me- Um no. (Although they have been acting like they are on crack lately.)

Tom- Hugs not drugs. (Long pause) I think I’ve made my point.

And that my friends is your local service announcement.

Hugs not drugs.

Now for evidence that our dogs love to hug…or at least make Tom and I feel like they do.

I am fairly sure by the amount of snoring that is going on here, Crosby is ok with the hugging/cradling.

Grace is such a good hugger. She will force herself into your lap for this attention.

404374_824208552861_2036696018_n

She seems to totally hate this…

336795_824210548861_1017548185_o

Hates her space to be invaded…I think she is the dominant one in this situation.

287553_942620484401_284727669_o

I mean who wouldn’t want to be in a hug with these two.

544306_10100153368151361_1768313224_n

She tackled Tom for hugs when he came back from deployment. Looks like she is one of those seeking out the embrace.

Pure enjoyment right there.

I do know that every dog may not be this way, and also that my dogs don’t like everyone hugging them. But I will enjoy the fact that we have this luxury in our house!

Are your dogs huggers?
